GT Clothesaholic

I don't usually splurge for nice and luxury clothing. I always stick to my usual basic choice:  Jeans and Tees.
I don't know if you can call it frugal living; I am fond of getting stuff from flea markets, or "ukay-ukay" looking for cheap brands just to add things up to my closet.  Definitely if I can see dresses where I have to pay for half the price, surely I will.
Creating my own style appeal most to me when it comes to selecting my own clothes.  To give it a spin, I usually put decoratives or crafts to my old shirts.  Sometimes,  I combine interesting colors with cool accessories to make it "retro style".  I am more of 'accessory person'.  Although I only have quite a few collection of dresses, my mind still wander to aspire for more Spring Collections... still considering buying them online though.

I feel that even if you are not wearing the best trendy clothes these days, it doesn't mean you are out of fashion.

GT Biggest Fan

I've been missin' a lot of  entries for GT.  But I'm here to catch up GT giveaways which is happening this month.  That's why even if it's late in the evening, i'm trying my late-entry for GT: Biggest Fan hosted by Beauty Queen Gene. (better late than never lol.)

Who can ever forget the one who made it to the limelight while portraying the romantic comedy " Pretty Woman"? Yap, I love Julia Roberts to the max.

I am Julia fanatic since then.  Never missed watching her in "My Best Friend's Wedding", Notting Hill, Runaway Bride and Ocean's Eleven, among others. Julia Roberts has been included in the top 50 "Most Beautiful People in the World" by  one of People's Magazine and one of the most powerful women in America, who couldn't resist Ms. Julia Roberts, anyway?

New Year Resolutions @ Girls Talk

Are you striving for any life change? Definitely we all  look forward to a better life, better self and healthy lifestyle.  Who doesn't want anyway?

As far as New Year Resolution is concerned, if not all are aware of this, it originated its form from Judaism religion. It is known as the Day of Atonement according to  Jewish New Year wherein everyone is expected to ponder over wrongdoings done within the year and should look for forgiveness. From there, almost everyone’s followed the belief.  But how to achieve them is difficult so it is better to accomplish something that is measureable.

This week at GT, all girls talk about resolutions.  Pinay Expat Blogger found this to be a bit tough since it’s really not easy to work on with any wish list.

As the clock strikes twelve, we immediately imagine a lot of life-changing situations to amend.  Life is a constant change; for me, working out on a certain wish is better than writing them.  But I will still continue to dream in order to keep myself moving and do things right.  For GT, here’s my wish list:

* Be financially fit (this means more time with my writing gigs, online and offline biz)
* More time with my family (I mean, quality time to do some cooking of their favorite meriendas, mentoring on their school lessons and watching videos with them!)
* Being more frugal with things   (watch my spending and start adding up on savings!)
* Blog more and update them regularly ( don't forget to blog hop and comment!)
* Taking time out for myself (reading a page each day, singing my heart out once in a while and do some workouts to keep myself fit)

I know keeping them is easier said than done, but it's a matter of choice!  One tip: when you have a list, try to develop this list over time, keep it with you so you can refer back once you are tempted to break it.

What's On Your Grocery Shopping List - GT

Ladies, what a great topic for GT this November... sharing stuff we all love doing... Shopping. I know it's our favorite treat to wind up a buzzling day. I find it interesting too but I usually make my grocery list at least once or twice a month before pushing the grocery cart and filling it with crap, unwanted items. Grocery list provides me with the opportunity to budget and decide what I should buy in a week or so and make shopping a lot more easier.

Here in UAE, salary comes only once a month so I make sure all necessary items are bought. I am the type who always stick to my budget no matter what. My friend would always tease me as someone who is stingy but when it comes to food, I make sure I've got chicken, fish, beef and eggs in my fridge with a dozen of yoghurt.

I noticed that if you have a planned menu for week or month and having all the ingredients on hand, it can spare you time and energy just to get the lacking items for your menu from a nearby "ducan" or store.

Going to the food section usually is on top my itinerary then head on next to household section for detergent powder, downy, etc. but of course I can't ignore beauty products to keep my day. A once a month visit to a Filipino store would always be my great treat getting my favorite skinless longganisa, dried fish and pork meats. At times I like the ho-hum-day walking in the mall just to get a glimpse of some products without buying them, lol.

What's in your grocery list? Share your thoughts with the rest of GT buddies here.

Best Suspense Book of All Time - Girls Talk

Bourne Identity

Have you tried reading a book that makes your heart pounding until the end? There are a lot of suspenseful books out there that would put you at the edge of your seat. What makes me loved a book by page is the fact that it makes me drool over in pages with a bit of addiction.

'Bourne Identity' by Robert Ludlum brings in more suspense/thrill into his novel right up to the end. This book has come to screen for the second time but I love reading it more rather than watching the film. The first book of the Bourne trilogy series, Bourne Identity is fast-paced, well written and with fantastic plot.

The 'Bourne Identity' begins with a tale of Jason Bourne, was shot and rescued in the sea with amnesia. Discovered by a fisherman surviving with no memory in French Mediterranean Sea, he traces back his past through a harrowing personal maze. He came to know that he was a trained killer and now being hunted down by assassins. The book was really a page turner, the descriptions of people and places really helped the story come back to life.

Two other books of this series are The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. A truly entertaining read!

Three Plums In One @ Girls Talk

Three Plums In One: One for the Money, Two for the Dough, Three to Get Deadly

Wacky, humorous book titles are in store on Girls Talk this time. Last week's theme has been so grand and exciting as all entries shared about “books that make you cry”. Of course, we all want to be happy most of the times, so we can't miss reading a book that would certainly leave a smile on our faces. There are tons of hilarious books written out there that could make us cracking up, so here's my share on GT's hilarious finds:

One of the books that I love to read is Three Plums In One: One for the Money, Two for the Dough, Three to Get Deadly by Janet Evanovich’s, New York number 1 best selling author. A friend recommended this book and I am glad she did because it truly made my day being so outrageously funny!

A fast-paced, cranky and simply a great piece to read and relax, you can’t put this book down. The main character Stephanie Plum is a great stuff to follow as she board on a new job as a bounty hunter. Other colorful characters include Joe Moerelli, Ranger, Grandma Mazur and Lula. A zany storyline that will surely delight your day, this is a must-read!

Books That Make You Cry at Girls Talk

Photobucket

I just can't get rid of GT especially this week's theme is all about sharing books that made everyone cry. After some time of dilly dally job hunting and finally happy to get one, I now have more time to try my hand at writing and sharing my thoughts here online. Apparently, being able not read a page a day is a big "no no" for me and I know everyone just really loves to read about anything may it be a quote, a poem, etc. We simply can't missed a day without reading. There's no reason not to be happy on Girls Talk sharing completely any book that brought tears to our eyes.

The book " The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein is a very famous children's tale which I kept reading again and again when I was young and read on to my kids during bed time. Generally, this book gives a total inspiration of selflessness and enthuses a positive trait on giving. Although there are some overbearing comments from different readers being it too sappy or upsetting.

The Giving Tree for me has lots of lesson to learn, capturing my heart as a child; even youngsters can learn from the moral lessons it impart. But the devastation on environment like cutting down of trees, can bring such great impact on human lives. But at the end of the day, one can get to think Am I generous? Am I giving?....such a great story of friendship and acceptance that truly made me cry..

How to Celebrate Green Christmas?

green christmas

Have you ever thought of celebrating Christmas with “green ideas” in mind? Maybe you might as well be wondering how we could celebrate it ‘green’? Well, since this week GT's theme is all about anything ‘green” and it just timely for 'ber’ month...here's my share.

While Christmas is the time of the year where we get to feel the magic and wonders of anything yet some considered it as the most lavish, uneconomical season. We get to spend so much, prepare more foods, consume and hurl more away. It is during this season where we get to dump tons of rubbish that put in more stress on our planet earth. More wastes make this place a less friendly environment to dwell in.

'Going Green' is a call to buy less, decorate less and use less to easily celebrate a ‘green’ Christmas. Here are some creative ideas to consider how to:

1. Decorate your homes made up of recycled materials. Instead of buying new “moon and stars” for your decor for example, you can use construction paper and paint them with your favorite color. You can use live plants or trees as your Christmas tree and recycle your decor. Be a trendsetter.

2. Give environmentally friendly gifts to your loved ones. Be creative. Buy organic food, face and body lotion, recycled items, etc. You can share experiences too. Instead of spending on extravagant gifts that they already have or they might don’t need, give them experience. You may treat them to the nearest spa, a concert ticket to their favorite singer, a training session on how become a Virtual Assistant, a tour to the nearest cricket stand or baseball camp. Do you knit, carve or paint? You can use these ideas to create a personalized gifts for them.

3. Use reusable gift wrappers. Homemade wrapping paper is a lot of fun to do. You can use stencil and good paint to glow up your old news paper cut outs or comic strips. You can also use old cloth gift bags using pillow cases, curtains and sheets with your sewing machines.

There are plenty of “green” Christmas ideas that you can actually think of. You can feed a family, or you can plant a tree in the neighborhood; you can shop for organic bath soap and accessories or you may pick a book on environment. The most important thing is to make a habit to devour and conserve. What you use makes a lot of difference by knowing and acting how to recycle them. Christmas is not only a time for sharing and giving, but also for conserving and recycling. Help reduce waste and make this place a better place to live in.

Red High Heels at GT!

To fill the world with reddish things is the spectacular event happening at GT today! I'm not the type of person who actually so fascinated with red stuffs except on valentine’s day where I have to wear red shirt, or during my birthday wearing anything red to shy away from evils prowling around, or during new year's eve where I have put on red stuffs with dots to invite good fortune. LOL.

Just being curious about how to wear those red high heels! Some experts would say it's a symbol of sex appeal and feminity. It's an indispensable choice for actresses attending some glamorous occasions and for some just a nice treats to flaunt those sexy nice legs!
Nydia13 Ruffled High Heel Pump RED

We all know that most women find therapeutic benefits and solace in wearing shoes! I just want to feel the "so called" magic most women claimed when wearing this piece.yay. This kind of feeling "beautiful" and "confident" is an amazing thing to experience. Have you tried wearing those red bottoms at least for once? I may not be Victoria Beckham or Nicole Kidman walking down the red carpet, wearing one could make me feel tall and smart, why not?

Enjoy reddish moment at Girls Talk today! with Beauty Queen Gene every Thursday.

I wish you everything red and nice!

Movies to Watch With an Enemy - GT

My better late than never Movie Thursday entry finally is here. Yesterday was a bit of fun being able to cook different menus for a housemate's birthday. Actually I can't think of any particular movie to watch with an enemy. For now, what overwhelms me is the fact that we should share love to anyone that we meet. As Miss Kris Aquino would always say "love, love, love". Peace always gives us a sense of belonging.

Photobucket

Hotel Rwanda has always been one of my favorite movies. A 2004 drama film directed by Terry Jorge based on real life events in Rwanda, starring Don Cheadle. This is a true story of a hotel manager who was able to save more than 1200 lives during the Rwandan genocide. The film which has been called an African "Schindler's list, exploring political corruption, genocide and repercussions of violence.

Being an independent film, it also won nominations on multiple awards including Academy award for best actor, best supporting actress and best original screenplay. As the whole world closed its eyes to this crisis, Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager in Rwanda, opened his heart to prove that human spirit can make us stronger amidst all violence.

There you go, make love not war, this is a very disturbing film to share with anybody that will surely open a new world of peace with your friend, brother or sister and that with your enemy. Hope you like my pick for this week here at Girls Talk! with Beauty Queen Gene every Thursday.

Movies to Watch With Your Sister @ GT

Jai Ho

Movie watching provides amusement and fun that make us relax and unwind after a tough day's work. Good that in this internet era, gone was those days when we really have to streak up to movie houses sometimes elbow to elbow just to get a glimpse of our favorites.

These days, watching movies online with no hassle is one of the best ways to amuse yourself. With the advent of CD and DVD, you can also watch romance, horror, adventure etc. using your favorite computer and laptops at no cost. My sister and I are saving for the future so instead of spending in movie theatres we are now opting to watch movies via internet for free.

One movie that we can't possibly forget which is equally entertaining, heartbreaking, and powerful is "The Slumdog Millionaire". Maybe you are also familiar with this film as it raked a lot of awards like Best Picture and Audience Award in Oscar Nomination. I just loved the verity that actors were not stars in this movie. One of the best films in 2008 directed by Danny Boyle, he combined the suspense of a game show (Who wants to be a millionaire) and of the vision and energy of an orphan who never stops hoping. This movie will surely make you laugh and cry at the same time.

I would even recommend watching this film for the whole family. A must-see film where you will agree with me, all its elements are tied perfectly, giving it a "great thumbs up".
